ADEKA 2020 are profiles made of rubber and hydrophilic polymers which, when in contact with water, double their volume while maintaining the original cross-section shape, increasing their overall dimensions.
In other words, when in contact with water, ADEKA 2020 profiles can expand to twice their original volume. This expansion exerts pressure on the contact surfaces (approximately 15 kg/cm2), ensuring perfect watertightness of structural expansion joints subjected to hydrostatic pressure, without damaging the concrete to which the profile is fixed. ADEKA 2020 profiles remain stably in the expanded position even when the presence of water is not constant.
Fields of application: they are used to create hydrophilic watertight seals in expansion joints such as those found in garages and swimming pools, in contraction joints for foundations and slabs, in shear joints for tunnels and subways, in the maintenance of old joints such as those in dams, and in the prefabrication of hydraulic structures such as channels and quays.
Installation method: apply the ADEKA 2020 profile at the expansion joint by bonding it with a fast-setting mastic or fixing it with nails. For correct use, there must be at least 10 cm of concrete thickness on each side of the profile (to join different profiles, use the EXPANDER K1 hydrophilic paste). Before carrying out the subsequent concrete pour, place the appropriate polystyrene spacer on the upper part in order to create slight joint restraint during casting.
Advantages: ADEKA 2020 profiles are fixed to the substrate by nailing and, if necessary, with the addition of EXPANDER K1, and can also be applied to complex or irregular structures; their expansion process is activated even in the presence of salt water, while the product remains completely non-toxic and resistant to chemical attack, particularly chlorides, sulfates, and nitrates.
