EXP 50 is a water-based surface retarder for flat surfaces, free from organic solvents, which acts as a surface deactivator for cement-based products on horizontal surfaces to create a “washed aggregate” effect: it delays the surface cement paste for a controlled depth (3–4 mm).
EXP 50 is specifically formulated for positive applications: when applied to the surface of fresh concrete, before the cement paste sets, it deactivates surface hardening and allows the aggregate to be exposed. This characteristic makes it suitable for elements of any size, from small to large-scale applications.
Thanks to its effectiveness, EXP 50 is ideal for exposing aggregates on horizontal surfaces and for construction joints on freshly placed concrete, ensuring aesthetic and functional continuity.
Its versatility also makes it perfect for architectural finishes, both on horizontal surfaces and on precast panels produced in a horizontal position, as well as for newly placed concrete.
Fields of application: EXP 50 is suitable for all applications where an exposed-aggregate concrete effect in positive is desired. It is particularly recommended for pavements and areas subject to urban or private traffic, such as pedestrian zones, squares, parking areas, sidewalks, outdoor stairways, condominium pavements, courtyards, and garage ramps. It is also ideal for the production of garden and urban furniture elements with exposed aggregates, as well as for architectural concrete applications.
Directions for use: EXP 50 must be thoroughly mixed before use. Application with a pressure pump (such as the CHAPIN Pump) is recommended on fresh concrete, ensuring uniform coverage of the surface to be treated with an operating pressure of approximately 2–4 bar.
The concrete surface must also be well screeded and free from air bubbles and bleeding. The washing of the surface treated with EXP 50 is then carried out once the concrete has hardened, generally one day after application, using a pressure washer. It is also recommended to wash the equipment used for application with water.
