MCI\u00ae<\/sup> 2020 is a corrosion inhibitor that, when applied to concrete surfaces, migrates through the porosity of the conglomerate and fixes the active parts of these molecules to the reinforcing bars inside the concrete structure. The exceptional feature of the product is that if MCI 2020 does not come into direct contact with the metal, it will migrate a considerable distance through the porosity of the concrete to find and protect the reinforcing bars.<\/strong><\/p>\n Tests carried out with the SHRP (STRATEGIC HIGHWAY RESEARCH PROGRAM) programme indicate a significant reduction in voltage and corrosion current even in concrete containing high levels of chlorides. At these chloride levels, conventional nitrite-based corrosion inhibitors tend to accelerate corrosion rather than inhibit it.<\/p>\n Method of use<\/strong>: MCI 2020 is applied by spraying or rolling onto concrete surfaces. \nThe migratory inhibitor is capable of preventing further corrosion even of iron already affected by chlorides. The product can be applied at all temperatures above zero. For concrete containing high concentrations of chlorides, two applications may be necessary for maximum effectiveness.
\nSurfaces must be cleaned of dirt, oil and grease before application.
\nSpray does not damage paint or glass, and the product can be removed simply by washing it off with water.
\nBefore applying a coating or other concrete to a surface treated with MCI 2020, it should be noted that even a thin film of inhibitor can adversely affect adhesion; this can be avoided by rinsing the surface with water or removing it by sandblasting. A simple rinse removes the thin layer of inhibitor, leaving a clean surface on which easy and effective adhesion is possible.<\/p>\n
